Counseling focuses on our feelings about what happened while coaching, focuses on our thinking and behaviors about what happened.
Counseling can occur for an extended period while coaching is meant to be short term.
The counselor or therapist often determines the steps towards healing while the client takes the lead in coaching.
It is important to meet people where they are. Through active listening, holding space for clients to share their experiences without guilt, shame, or judgement.
